DECATUR — St. Teresa first baseman Kyle Leckrone’s at-bat in the seventh inning of the Bulldogs’ game against Monticello on Tuesday was one he’ll never forget.
Monticello pitcher Jacob Williams won’t forget it anytime soon, either, though he’d like to.
With St. Teresa down a run and the count 3-2 with runners on second and third, Leckrone fouled off several formidable Williams fastballs to stay alive. Finally, Leckrone got his bat around in time to hit a ground ball up the middle for a base hit. It scored Adam Peters and Bobby Boynton to give St. Teresa a 3-2 win over Monticello and keep the Bulldogs (21-4-1, 7-1 Okaw Valley Conference) in tied in the loss
“That was the best at-bat I’ve seen anyone have on any team this year,” St. Teresa coach Jim Stewart said. “He battled against a kid throwing 90. He’s a grinder and he got the job done.”
