St. Teresa’s spring musical will be Jesus Christ Superstar on March 7th and 8th at 7:30 PM in the Gymnasium. Tickets will be $8 and will be for sale at the door. This musical, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice, is a rock opera originally recorded as an album. After its inception as a stage show in 1971, it became a hit in spite of the controversy that it caused. St. Teresa’s production, starring underclass veterans Sophia Schwalbach as Mary Magdalene, Cole Burdick as Judas Iscariot, and David A. Monk, a senior, as Jesus Christ, will be directed by Mary Midiri-Davis and choreographed by Cami Kerns. Though facing a formidable score, musical directors Rick Strine and Rae Ann DeSutter have been undaunted in preparing the cast for what will be one of the most difficult musical selections ever performed on St. Teresa’s stage. The show’s orchestral pit will feature a rock combo conducted by John Gorecki. Veteran crew members Ryan Finley and Sam Tatham will be coordinating lights and sound. Seniors Caroline Forester and Erin Kurecki are serving as Student Director and Stage Manager, respectively. The show’s ensemble will leave the stage very little, thereby making full-cast numbers highly dynamic and especially memorable. Seniors Annie Kefalus, Nathan DeSutter, Kevin Nutakor, Don J. Baker, Claire Glosser, Vanessa Cundiff, Luke Plossel and Melanie Anselmo will also be featured in what will be their last major high school production in roles such as Annas, Peter, Simon the Zealot, Caiphas the High Priest, and King Herod.
