Letter to my Host Family

My name is Quim and I love books! I don’t think I could live without them. It is great getting sucked into a story and playing it out. My mom and I enjoy watching movies together, we watch different genres and it’s nice that we share the same hobby. In addition to reading and watching movies, I like exploring new cities. Sometimes the cities are out of movies that I watched or books that I read, it is great if you recognize the buildings from stories. I find discovering new cities, museums and monuments very exciting! Occasionally I go with my friends to Barcelona to spend the day there, we go to the cinema or go shopping or just get lost to explore new places. Family is important to me and I help my siblings and parents with chores around the house; I would be glad to help you as well. I like to show you my country and my culture. A lot of people believe that people who speak Spanish are the same, actually Spain and South America are two totally different worlds and that not everyone in Spain dances flamenco and eats paella. We can figure out the differences together, I sure don’t know all. With all that said, thank you for reading this letter and I hope I fit in your family! Thanks, Quim

Letter to my Host Family

I love spending time with my family. Even though my grandmother does not live with me, she comes to my house every Sunday. We watch movies all together on Sundays. On the weekdays my parents and I go for walks, watch TV or play board games. By the way I love taking photos so I am trying to learn how to take them well. Sometimes, when I have free time, I spend it making puzzles. I also enjoy water sports such as swimming or kayak. Even though I live in a warm place I love ice skating too. I will be a good host daughter/sister and teach you some things from my country or language if you want to. Thank you so much for making this possible, Alba

Letter to my Host Family

My name is Maria and my family and I enjoy going to the beach together or movie time which means that we chose a Netflix movie, make popcorn and hang out together. It’s a weekly thing. I take karate classes with my best friend and we love it. I read a lot of books, especially mystery and adventure novels. I’m constantly listening to music, especially by Sia or Taylor Swift. I like dancing to it too. I would like to become a doctor and help people. This has been my dream since I was little. I like to learn from this experience but I like to teach you about Spanish culture and traditions as well. I’m thankful for this great opportunity and for being part of your family for a year. Thanks, Maria

Letter to my Host Family

I share my home with my parents and my little brother, and we have a very close relationship: we trust each other and feel comfortable sharing our problems and our daily life. We try to have breakfast all at the same time and after coming from school and finishing my homework, we normally watch TV while eating dinner together. I also visit my grandparents regularly and see the rest of my family at birthday parties, trips and family gatherings. For instance at the beginning of autumn we usually go to the countryside in order to collect chestnuts which we roast and eat all together at my grandma’s house. When the weather is good we usually go to the beach and enjoy a picnic laying on the sand after going surfing with my cousins. Something I usually dream about is my future career path. A strong interest for space and aircraft has led me to watch multiple documentaries which combined with the enthusiasm I experienced in my physics classes last year made me consider Aeronautical Engineering as my ideal university degree. I believe such important values as honesty, dedication and organization are qualities I have been able to apply to different areas of life and which will help to improve the family feeling. Thank you in advance for your kind hospitality and I look forward to meeting you. Alejandro

Letter to my Host Family

I’m in the choir of my high school, a group of sixty students between thirteen and twenty-five; each year we travel to sing in different locations. Last year we went to Coimbra (Portugal) and this year we are going to Paris (France). I am in my high school drama club, we get acting lessons and put together a play that we stage at the end of the year. This year’s piece is A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. I also work helping in a drama club for people with disabilities, with them I’ve made an adaptation of a fairy tale by the Grimm Brothers “The Story of the Youth Who Went Forth to Learn What Fear Was”. I’m also working on the production of a musical that is inspired by a Spanish theater piece: Don Juan Tenorio by Jose Zorrilla. It’s organised by the city council of my town. Apart from that, I have been practicing Contemporary Dance and ballet for two years now, and I really enjoy it. I’m really thankful t o you for letting me stay at your home and for your hospitality in general and I’m willing to do everything I can for a good coexistence. Thanks, Miguel

Letter to my Host Family

I consider myself hardworking and I achieve almost any goal that gets into my head, as evidence, the last thing I challenged myself with ended up being awarded with this grant. My favorite subjects are History, Economy and Maths, though I love studying languages and that’s why I speak 4 different languages, which are Basque (an official language of the North of Spain), French, Spanish and English. When it comes to spare time, one of the things I like the most is playing basketball. Nowadays, I play on the Baskonia team and I have a pretty good relationship with my teammates. We gather every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday since we have practice those days and I hope that by the end of this season we have the chance to play the national championship, which I am really willing to do. It is also true that I love swimming, running and trying any new sport that I see, which describes me as very sporty. I would like to point out that I ’m very grateful for you letting me have such an extraordinary experience and for opening up your house to a total stranger, I am very wishful to explore and acquire any knowledge about your homeland and habits. I know that I am just a guest and you my hosts, so I will make sure that this will be an astonishing and awesome experience for and me. Looking forward to meeting you. Alberto

Letter to my Host Family

Hey, I’m Jamie. I have a really big family and I get on well with everyone. My parents are divorced, but that doesn’t cause any problems because I still keeping in touch with both. I have no brothers or sisters but I have a lot of male cousins and I treat them as my brothers. I play the flute since I was five years old and play in concerts which has helped me to build up confidence. Nowadays, my favorite sport is running, but since I was five I’ve been practicing many sports such as swimming, cycling, dancing, playing basketball. I’ve always wanted to be part of something like an exchange program. I’m very much looking forward to this year and I’m thankful that you are making it possible. Thanks for hosting, Jaime

Letter to my Host Family

I have a large group of friends and our favorite activity to do together is either playing tennis or soccer and going to the beach. We are a good group and everyone has a great time. I love playing sports but my real passion is music. I play in a conservatory and taught myself how to play the guitar. During summer I go to talent camps and I have a blast. Everyone is very musically involved and we play together. In school my favorite subjects are physics and mathematics, hopefully I can work in a laboratory when I grow up. I will be happy to accept your house rules and I’m looking forward to my year in the US. Thank you for hosting and making this possible, Samuel
